The Department for Education & Skills (DfES) - Brand Creation and Development

Client Requirements

A brand identity for the DfES's web based Parents Online initiative that encouraged greater involvement of parents in their children's online life both in and out of school.

Technologies Utilized

N/A.

Results

A recognisable brand identity and set of style guidelines used over the 5-year life span of the project.

The DfES needed a strong and easily identifiable brand mark as a masthead for its Parents Online initiative. The mark had to be instantly recognisable to children, parents and teachers, as it would be advertised both in school and in other organisations that offered free and community based internet services.

We used a family motif with the project name in a circular frame, all in red and white. This brand identity easily lent itself to both on and offline media as well as badges, stickers, mugs, mouse mats, balloons, etc. Throughout the five years of the project, the main identity was refined and subtly reinvented and associated media seamlessly developed along with it.
